Full Version: Kaspersky causing backup problem

I have been using EMC Retrospect Professional to do daily incremental file backups for several years. Recently, I started having problems during the backup with Retrospect reporting files cannot be accessed because they are write protected. The error is not consistent. In the last 5 days I had one backup script that ended early because it said the catalog file (In a My Documents folder) was write protected. However, I repaired the same catalog, and ran the backup again successfully a short time later. Another day it failed to backup one set of files in the Program Files directory, saying they were write protected. Again, however, repeating the operation worked fine. The other three days the whole backup worked fine. The only change I have made on my system was to recently upgrade to Kaspersky Internet Suite 2010. I got a notice and renewed my license, and I noticed at that time that the license was good for the 2010 version. So I downloaded it from the web site sent me in the renewal confirmation email and installed it without any issues. (I was using 2009 previously.) Is there some way that the 2010 version scans files that could cause this problem when it worked fine in the 2009 version? Or any other suggestions? It seems like some kind of a timing conflict. Thanks.

disable the KIS program and protection elements while the backup runs to make sure files are not locked by the kaspersky program. same applies to any automatic defrag program which also have the potential to lock files.

I am sorry. It does not make sense to me to have to disable my protection suite to do a backup. I have also noticed slowing when accessing file directories and sometimes when accessing new web pages in Firefox. I will try to uninstall and reinstall a clean installation as suggested in the new upgrade post to see if that improves things.
