Full Version: Does it prevent a hard reset?

Hi!

I'm just trialing this great application on a Nokia N95-1. I've read that the Guardian application does it, but didn't know about yours.

Does it protect against a hard reset of the phone, after being enabled and setting a password in the KAV application? And a related issue which I think will not prevent (don't know about Guardian neither) is a firmware update / overwrite. Does it prevent that too?

Please let me know since I'm looking to buy such application and right now I'm between this and Guardian, and that would be latest point to finish my decision.

Thanks in advance for your time and for developing such a tool! b_punk.gif

Hi there,

I think I've asked this too soon because I just now found this post with Viktor explaining something about it.

He said:
QUOTE
Neither KMS nor any other application can survive Hard Reset. We protect your personal data, we don't protect a piece of iron

and after WAY some backtracking, I've found what I was talking about. Here is the article I've read about Guardian protecting against hard resets:

QUOTE
Guardian will automatically switch to invisible mode when a SIM card is entered that is not authorized which makes it impossible to access the application. It also comes with a hard reset protection that protects the application when the user performs a hard reset which basically means a return to the default phone settings. (works 90% of the time according to the developers)

So Viktor, if this works, is there a chance you could implement something similar in KAV?

Thanks again for your time!
Viktor

It doesn't work if you take the memory card out. It is not possible to prevent hard reset .

Hmm... I'm not sure I understand. How taking the memory card out (or even using a phone with no memory card at all) conflicts to it not being able to protect the hard reset, if the application is installed in the main memory of the device?

Thanks,
