I'm having trouble installing KAV to a remote pc running win xp home

I've never worked with a vpn before and am currently trying Hamachi. As I understand it Hamachi creates a virtual network adapter with a 5.x.x.x ip address and allows vpn connection while using a dynamic external IP.

The remote pc shows up in the proper group in the Admin kit with current 'visible' time and it's proper 5.x.x.x ip address so I think admin kit sees the pc ok.

any attempts to do a remote install are met with the following error

Shared folder "\\TBFD_CORP\admin$" is unavailable: (No network provider accepted the given network path.) Cannot download the package using network agent because it is not installed on the target host yet.

I have read FAQ's about installing on xp home and FAQ's about vpn but I can't find any that address BOTH

1)is this even possible

2) is my problem with xp home? or with the vpn?

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

In this article you may find two ways to install network agent remotly on Windows XP Home: http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208279754

AFAIK, it's not possible to install Network Agent remotly over the Administration Kit, because administrative shares (admin$, c$, ...) are not available under XP home. It's not designed to be used in coporate networks.

Perhaps you should think about rebuilding the network with domain, 'full' operating systems (pro or business) and a 'real' vpn...

Thanks for the reply, most of the network is on a domain with xp pro machines. This application is with a left over old pc at a stand alone remote location. If I can't get it up and running changes can be made but I wanted to give it a shot with what we had.

I will try the manual install of network agent, but I'm a bit confused.

Do I just copy the setup.exe from the net agent package folder or do I need the entire net agent folder on the remote pc to start the install?

As described in the article (link I posted):

QUOTE
copy the file lsexec.exe (from the Kaspersky Administration Kit setup folder) into the installation package of Administration Agent (subfolder Share\Packages\NetAgent 6.0.XXXX of the Kaspersky Administration Kit setup folder), then relocate the created installation package (folder NetAgent 6.0.XXXX) to the user’s computer and run the file lsexec.exe with the /S value (to install the Administration Agent in “silent” mode).
