Full Version: Reinstalling KAK

Hello everyone.

I have an older version of KAK 6 installed on a server for quite some time. About 15 PCs are connecting to it to receive updates. Some time ago i discovered that the database has been corrupted (i tried to update KAK but the update mentioned it cannot proceed due to DB corruption). KAK seems to work almost normally but i'd like to reinstall it, just to make sure everything is OK.

I don't want to preserve any structure or settings. The only thing i'm concerned about is how to make sure the PCs connecting to it will not be affected by a reinstallation. I know i have to preserve the certificate and i know it can be done via the klbackup utility but i'm not so sure i'll be able to properly restore just it and not the entire DB structure.

Can anyone please provide me the following 2 things:

1. Backup (or somehow extract) the server certificate before uninstalling KAK.
2. Install the certificate extracted in step 1.

Thank you.

Hi Vitaly

As i said:

I guess what i said was not clear enough, so i'll give it another try.

klbackup backs up the certificate in a file named certinfo.dat (if i have understood the whole process correctly).
1. Can i use this file later in order to restore this certificate in a new KAK installation? If yes, how?
2. Is perhaps another (better) way to extract the certificate so i can use it in a new KAK installation?
3. If i reinstall KAK and restore the certificate from my previous installation, will that be enough for the clients to connect to the new KAK instance without problems or any additional steps from me? Is there perhaps anything else i should do?

Thanks
