We are still in the trial period of trying out Kaspersky for our organization and I thought I'd give it a little test today. We currently use Trend Micro and one annoying thing we see on some of our workstations is the "MyWebSearch Toolbar". I thought I'd load up a test machine and pretend I were a typical ignorant user and "accidentally" try to install this toolbar. It honestly took me a while to find it, but www.smileycentral.com eventually ended up being the place where I could get it. During the initial install of the toolbar, Kaspersky said it noticed something bad happening and stopped it. The installer then said that it failed, and asked if I'd like to try again. I said yes, because I believe that's what a stupid ignorant user would do and then, after a short pause, I was told that the installation was successful. I received another notification from Kaspersky saying that it had detected bad stuff, it said that it was unable to be deleted. The annoying toolbar now shows in both IE and Firefox on this test computer. When I attempted to do a full system scan, again, Kaspersky found the 'not-a-virus:AdTool.Win32.MyWebSearch.db' file and said that it could not be deleted. Kaspersky also seems to detect this file pretty regularly, because now I'm receiving e-mail alerts every 15-20 minutes telling me that it's been found and it can't be deleted.
Trend Micro does stuff like this. That's why I'm looking to switch to a different product. I'm hoping I have something incorrectly configured somewhere. If anyone can tell me what I might possibly be doing wrong, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks in advance
