Full Version: KAV engine - Workstation 6.0 vs KAV 2010

I am evaluating managed antivirus solutions for a business environment. I see that Kaspersky has their Business Workstation 6.0 product which allows for central management. However, the interface dates back to the old KAV 6.0 line and not the new 2009/2010 interface.

I am a huge fan of their home consumer 2009/2010 product and would love to be able to recommend Business Workstation 6.0 if the engine is the same, despite the older interface. They may have the same antivirus bases, but the 2010 engine has improvement over the old home consumer 6.0 in terms of heuristics and rootkit detection.

Also, the old KAV 6.0 engine's iSwift technology wreaks havoc with chkdsk because it attaches NTFS ObjectIDs to everything it touches. In my testing with Kaspersky Antivirus 2010, I can personally verify that it no longer attaches NTFS ObjectIDs to every file, and chkdsk only takes a minute instead of 10 to 15 minutes on the same machine after restoring from identical disk images except for the version of Kaspersky prior to doing a full virus scan.

Does anyone here know if Kaspersky has been updating the Business Workstation 6.0 engine to use the 2010 antivirus engine?

Thanks

As far as i know, KIS 2010 has the newer engine than KAV 6 (Business)..

But the MP (Maintenance Patch) 4, which will be published in Sept / Oct, will deliver a new engine. I think it is almost the same as in KIS 2010...

So you can be sure that your clients are protected with a state of the art engine...

Note: The Home-use products are always newer than the business products, because the corporate customer needs a stable solution, which is tested well...

MP4 is definitely using the new style interface and engine. It is much faster from my testing.

Agreed. But with the proliferation of rootkits in the past 3 years since KAV 6.0 originally came out, the engine improvements are sorely needed to keep up with new attacks. I'm very glad to hear that they'll be updating the engine soon.
