Full Version: Windows XP unusable after KAV 6 installed
Kaspersky Lab Forum > English User Forum > Protection for Small and Medium Businesses
Matt.Shuter
Windows XP SP3 with latests updates
Dell precision workstation

Login to central server, install KAV 6.0.3.837 from server. reboot machine. problems aplenty.
- half of services that are set to automatic, do no start up. they startup fine before KAV was installed. they can not be started once KAV is installed.
- right-click My Computer (or My Network Places), select properties, well over 10 minutes to display (if at all)
- Add-Remove Control Panel, click uninstall KAV - window pops up but then it just spins its wheels, no cpu being used.. nothing after sitting for over 10 minutes

I have restore points that I can revert back to (and have), and the machine is working just fine until I install KAV and reboot.

I have installed KAV on Windows 2003 servers and Novell Netware servers, and have not had an issue with them.
Tried KAV on two Windows XP machines, and got the problems described above.

Thoughts on where to start troubleshooting?
Thanks.

Please specify the name and version of Kaspersky product for example Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows Workstations 6.0.3.837.
And please attach here the report file of GetSystemInfo utility, upload that file on http://support.kaspersky.fr/getsysteminfo/ and post the link of that report here.

Same problem here on my netbook and on another 4 wokstations at work.

This problem is the known "Update problem".

At first i noted my netbook just freezed up (no CPU used) and I had to hard reboot. But then i noted that BEFORE freezing up (or just in time) the Update icon started to appear.

In the dedicated post there is a waiting for the hopely patched version for the 20 july.

I want to add that this update problem, started to appear on my netbook from one day to another after using the SAME version 6.0.3.837 for very long time.

I think it's something related to a DATABASE UPDATE which makes KAV 6 go berserk. Not the program itself.

Hope this helps.
