Full Version: KIS 2010 needs more finishing

AbsM
Hello,

Inspite of so many problems I saw on the forum(along with my problem discussed here ) about version 2010, I decided to give it a try.

But its just in middle of good and bad.

Things I think should be improved or rethinked over are-

1. Applications are un-categorized, all are mixed up like Trusted+Custom are in some list. It take some time to figure whats where...

2. Rootkit scan starts everytime I start my computer, which takes up resources.

3. Updates are slow as well as bigger(500KB ~ 1MB) in size.

4. avp.exe randomly starts using 100% CPU, the only solution is to exit it and reenable.

5. Graphical User Interface is good but settings are too confusing.
to name a few......

Overall I think its not as good as speculated(Its my personal opinion, though many of us will agree with me).

Developers may be trying hard to increase its detection rate to the maximum and they have succeeded too but with that they seems to be ignoring user friendliness.
I always use to laugh when I saw people saying you have to be a real techno-savvy to use v8 but this time, sadly, I'll say it too, yes you need to be a techno-savvy to use v2010.

I have seen(but not used) version 6, and I do not remember much about it,and I used 7, 8 and now 9, the only balanced version I found was 7, undoubtedly. It had user friendliness as well as good detection but unfortunately as for version 6 its support is going to end soon.

Its clear now "The New is Not Always good".
Although I am going to use 2010 for few days, but I am going back to 7 or 8 until some major improvements are made.

Suggestions, views and criticism are welcome.

warm regards - AbsM

(With such things happening(not particular to Kaspersky) I am being more inclined towards OSS, and I think the day will come soon when my signature will read only Linux...(though I'll be on forum to help others)... )

hello
1. see the drop down in the application list, you can specify to show only restricted apps.
2. yes, it's a background scan, it will slow down to concede resources for other applications
3. yes, the number of viruses/day has increased exponentially, and also the spam DB in 2010 is bigger (it uses some components of the server edition).
4. well you have to trace that, i don't see anything, others don't etc.
5. gui's are subjective, i can give you some posts of people that like the new gui, others that don't like it.
AbsM
thanks Lucian,

can I except Hotfixes, MPs etc for v2010 in near future, keeping in mind that its 'Just Released'?
Don Pelotas
.......................except?

If you mean if there will hotfixes and maintenace packs, then yes to both...theres a hotfix in the beta ATM and it will soon be released.
AbsM
yes.....except, because 2010 just released, but it seems to be a bit unfinished that developers should release hotfixes or MPs soon.

I hope the points I and other members suggested will be considered for new build/hotfix/MP.

By the way, is there some settings from which I can turn rootkit scan to Manual or Off at all?

Also in AAC, there are too many option in sub categories(of Files and system registry, Rights and Network rule) one must really need to have good knowledge of Computer science to change the settings, I am scared to play with it, in v8 they were really easy to alter, just right click a category(ie OS, Network, Rights etc) to 'Ask user,Allow or Deny', I really miss this thing in v9.

As for GUI, this time color combination is really good, it looks more futuristic and professional, only drawback is its a bit confusing. I referred to its documentation but it lacks illustrations and screenshots.

There is no default way to switch it off. Why would you want to? It should be barely noticeable smile.gif

Trolling or Suggesting?????

You might have looked my signature, its moderately powerful if not powerful system, but anyways I cannot afford more powerful hardware and that too just for running a security suite.

Thank You AbsM good points.when the buggy(unfinished was kind) 2010 was first released it slowed the machine to a crawl with a broad band connection to that of Dial up hence the signature.any suite that does that is in our opinion Bloat-ware and was treated as such.before switch was made to open any page from the menu click > leave room > come back in 3 -5 min.if we were lucky the page was then loaded and able to be seen.doing business as we do over the net it was very inconvenient.strongly doubt we will be back. 2009 was better say the 50 + users that depended and contacted this user for removal link.no clue what they might have now obviously it won't be Kaspersky anymore.was nice while it was good.cut license short for KIS just as one was cut for AVG for KIS.as soon as this post is read or discovered by the ''powers that be'' without a doubt it will vanish like so many others have.Reason: deemed useless aside from any constructive critique. truths hurt And they are.

No my slightly confused old "friend".....................actually i would just like to wish you well on your way. You apparantly thought yet another of these posts was necesary..... this time in a 2 months old topic.

You're unhappy and have apparantly left the Kaspersky fold, maybe time to stop beatting that old "You think you're revealing dark secrects" horse..........................and just leave? No program is for everyone at all times through all versions and no one is going to be mad about some leaving, it's natural and happens every day for every vendor....and others finds their way here or even back here after harsh words a year or two ago.

Regards

............and on that note this thread closes since the OP already made his suggestion 2½ months ago, i don't see the point in adding more ramplings to this thread when it's point is already made............2½ months ago, when there has been released one new version in the meantime and one more is being tested foe release with Windows 7 release.....well actually before this.
