I need help. Some workstation reported a virus found last night. Now i have run a new scan over the whole system and i see it has created a report (.rpt file) under the location "\\wsXXXXX\c$\Dokumente und Einstellungen\All Users\Anwendungsdaten\Kaspersky Lab\AVP6\Report".

Now when i open the rpt file with notepad it shows only glibberish. How can i open or view these reports? I have tried via the admin kit but it just tells me "scan finished" without any options to see the actual report. I assume there must be some kind of tool to decode or at least view these files???

Hello,

You can view report of last scan runned in the statistics window which is available from the local interface of the product: http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=198562737
In the "Reports" tab you'll be able to see details of previous scan tasks: http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=198984241

I can not access the local workstation as it is in a remote location, our policy does not allow rdp sessions anyways. I need a way to read out the rpt file, i can only copy it from the remote machines administrative share (C$) to my own local workstation, but how can i open it?

Only with KAV for workstation.
But you can make report for this workstation using Reports tab in Adminkit.

You can't open those files with an external tool or export/import them from a computer to another one.

Anyway I don't understand why you want to see local reports if all information about this infection have been already reported to your Administration Server?

I have opened the computer in the Administration server console, but there when i click on "Tasks" i can see the full scan i started. When i right click the tasks and chose "results" i can only see "completed".

But our IT Security department is asking for the results of the scan, just "completed" does not say "virus free". i need to prove them there are no more infected files on the computer, so i thought i could just send them the rpt file with the report of the scan. But if they cant open the file it is of course of no use.

Is there any report where it shows like "The workstationw as scanned on 06/24/2009 and no infected files were found"? Just "Scan completed" is not good as it says the same when it found infected files, they demand some kind of proof that there are no more infected files on the system. I also tried to push the button "Reset Virus counter" but it doesnt work (The counter still shows "1" no matter how often i clcik that).
