Hi all,
I have kav4ws installed on a centos 4.2 workstation. Everything works fine most of the time, but sometimes I get the following output when I try to scan a file:

[18/06/09 22:08:05 I] Kaspersky Anti-Virus On-Demand Scanner for Linux. Version 5.7.20/RELEASE build #29, compiled Jul 25 2008, 13:21:47
[18/06/09 22:08:05 I] Copyright © Kaspersky Lab, 1997-2007.
[18/06/09 22:08:05 I] Portions Copyright © Lan Crypto
[18/06/09 22:08:05 F] Error loading license: Licensing secure data saving failed

This is totally intermittent (but happens enough to be a problem).

I installed the software as user "root", but run it as user "scanner".

any ideas what's causing the issue?

thanks for any help.

Hi Vitaly,
no, I don't believe it is. Does it need to be??

if it was caused by that though, why would the scan work half the time and not the other half?

thanks again,
Pat.

Maybe, we just haven't such issue before.
Please be sure, that SeLinux feature is disabled. If yes, then please run scan with strace until this error happen again, and attach results here.
And also please attach log of on-demand scanner.

Hi,
SeLinux is disabled. The on-demand scanner log (/var/log/kaspersky/kav4ws/kavscanner.log) has no entries in there since 10/06. I've been seeing the intermittent issue for weeks (this is the first time I've been able to go back & look at it). The only place in kavscanner that there is a mention of the license is at the start of it (excerpt attached)

I'll try with strace next.

thanks,
Pat.

Hi Vitaly,
apologies for the delay. I have attached an strace output as requested.

I had to split it into two files (for some reason zipping the entire file gave me a file size > 300 KB)

hopefully this will shed some light on the issue?

thanks again for your time & help.
regards,
Pat.

Install/ usage Summary:
- Installed everything as user "root"
- run everything as user "scanner"
- run the cmd line scanner in parallel threads (upto 10 at a time)
- user scanner is added to klusers group
- SeLinux is disabled.

Hi again,
developers can try to solve this problem only if it appears on the latest version (5.7.26). Please upgrade and inform about results.

Hi,
is there a way to upgrade withouht having to uninstall 5.7.20 and then reinstalling 5.7.26?

thanks,
Pat.

No, you should uninstall 5.7.20 first. But config files are saved after uninstall automatically.

Hi,
the zip file that I originally downloaded and installed actually has the name "kav4ws-5.7-26.i386.rpm" and rpm also says that the version that I have installed is 5.7-26".

When I check the "-v" option, it comes back saying "5.7-20".

is there a way to know for sure what I installed? How long ago was 5-7-20 released (and available on your website?) - I downloaded 5.7.26 at the end of April.

thanks,
Pat.

Hi,
I just uninstalled the existing version, downloaded & reinstalled the rpm package "kav4ws-5.7-26.i386.rpm". I then ran "/opt/kaspersky/kav4ws/bin/kav4ws-kavscanner -v" which returned the following:

"Kaspersky Anti-Virus On-Demand Scanner Linux. Version 5.7.20/RELEASE build #29, compiled Jul 25 2008, 13:21:47
Copyright © Kaspersky Lab, 1997-2007.
Portions Copyright © Lan Crypto"

Is this correct? surely it should have said Version 5.7.26?

thanks,
Pat.

So, the version that I have installed is the latest from the download/ Upgrade area. Can the developers look at the output now?

I've attached /var/log/kaspersky/kav4ws/kavscanner.log (edited to remove the scan file paths)

e.g. line removed "[10/06/09 10:08:12 A] /home/scanner/python/2.5.1/lib/python2.5/SimpleHTTPServer.py OK"

thanks again,
Pat.

NOTE: my original post has an error (it's "CentOS release 4.4 (Final)")

Hi,
is there any update on this issue? It's a bit of a problem that I have a licensed version of the product and it can only intermittently scan.

thanks,
Pat.
