Full Version: KAV Won't Completely Uninstall Spam-Guard

Running WinXP Pro Media Center on a domain environment and MS Exchange Server. Workstation kept hanging up while trying to view emails in Outlook. User keeps getting an hourglass that never goes away and has to cntl-alt-delete to force-quit Outlook.

I suspected that KAV was getting caught on something (brand new install as of last week) so I diabled the Spam-Guard and Email module. Still no change. Paused protection altogether. Still no change. Did a complete uninstall of KAV, but still see the Spam-Guard plug-in on Outlook. Computer still hangs up while trying to view emails.

How can I remove the plug-in?

I ran the remover according to the directions. Since it would not detect KAV, I had to run the application within the command window. I ran the tool using all of the suffixes (i.e. KAV6, KAV6WKS, etc.) and each time it said that it ran successfully. Outlook still had the spam icons when I launched it and would freeze after a few moments. I had to force-quit via the task manager.

Next step was to run Outlook in safe mode. The buttons, of course, were not there because all of the add-ins are disabled in safe mode. Outlook seemed to work, but then froze again after a few minutes.

Next step was to uninstall Outlook using the add/remove control panel tool. I also disabled the Outlook Express Windows component and deleted the Outlook mail profile from the Mail control panel. I restarted the computer and installed Outlook again. After configuring the new profile and being brought to the main window, I can still see the Spam Guard buttons in the toolbar. However, at least for the past hour, Outlook seems to be working okay now.

It still annoys me that the buttons are still in the tool bar, despite running the removal tools and reinstalling Outlook. However, if it is all working, I am willing to leave well enough alone for the present time.

Could you please provide a screenshot of that 'toolbar' / the buttons?

If these files are still on your harddrive try un-registering some dll's:

regsvr32 /u ''C:\Program Files\Kaspersky Lab\Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Workstations\oeas.dll''
regsvr32 /u ''C:\Program Files\Kaspersky Lab\Kaspersky Internet Security 2009\kloehk.dll''
regsvr32 /u ''C:\Program Files\Kaspersky Lab\Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Workstations\mcou.dll"
regsvr32 /u ''C:\Program Files\Kaspersky Lab\Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Workstations\mcouas.dll"

Please see also this article: http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=198007196

Furthermore try deleting following strings/branches in registry (be sure to backup your data first smile.gif):

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Exchange\Client\Extensions => Kaspersky Mail Checker
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Components\XXX (search in this branch for "mcou.dll")

Report result here.

Have you also tried to disable plugin via Outlook?
