Hi,
I just installed Windows "Kaspersky Anti-Virus for File Server" product on a virtual WIN2003 server.
Soon I noticed that there are lots (over 100) of avp.exe processes running simultaneously. After some time the server ran out of RAM (2 M).
I downloaded all the updates. I also tried to solve the problem by reinstalling the product.
I have to remove the AV product, because our clients cannot access the server anymore.
Maybe I have the wrong product.
Can anyone help please?
Thanks, JuKa
Specifics are always helpful.
What major roles does the machine have?
How much phys ram?
Under what accounts do the instances of avp.exe run?
There is a setting under Settings/Protection/Multi-CPU Configuration/Details to specify the number of kernel instances - what is set on your system?
I run Kav for servers 6.0.3.837 on Server 2003 Std SP2.
This server used to be a dc, and is still a Terminal Server.
Having that role alone will not cause unusual spawning of processes, unless you really do have hundreds of users connecting to the server and loading a remote desktop.
I just checked and I have 13 users connected currently via rdp.
I'm using about 10 instances of avp.exe - two by System, the rest by users who load a desktop.
Users who access the server but run an app on connection and never load a desktop, thus not invoking explorer.exe, do not spawn an additional process.
I think.
In any event, what you are experiencing is not normal for the environment you describe.
Since it *is* a server, I would address the actual problem rather than throwing a different version at it, unless someone is aware of a specific version incompatibility.
