Full Version: KAV mail AV is blocking VBscript in Outlook forms

I am planning to deploy Sunbelt's Exchange Archiver product.
This product makes use of VBscript in Outlook forms which are triggered whenever you open an archived message.
When KAV's mail protection is on, I get this message: "The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists, restart Outlook".

I can disable the KAV email scanner add-in to make the forms work but that defeats the purpose of having mail AV.

There must be an option to exclude certain forms.

Anybody know the answer?

Hi,

I'm using KAV 6.0.3.837 with Outlook 2003. This problem occurs on all Outlook version.
I currently have two choices:

1) Manually disabling KAV's mail checker add-in for Outlook
2) Disable KAV mail protection for my all my users.

Option 1 is not feasible since the add-in gets re-enabled the next time Outlook restarts.
Option 2 is too drastic but I might have to do it.

I contacted KAV's tech support and they said they are blocking all VBScript through email protection. There is not an option to exclude Outlook forms at the moment.
Their developers are looking into this.
They presented a 3rd option to the 2 above: Disable VBscript protection but that is also too drastic.

As I understand it, only KAV interfere with Outlook forms. Most other AV products don't.

Does anybody have a similar problem? If so, did you fix it and how did you fix it? A workaround different than the two options above would be great too.

Thanks,

Well...I found a slightly better way to fix this but I think it basically disables Outlook support for KAV's mail module. I'm hoping I'm wrong though.

I found that disabling "Microsoft Office and The Bat! support" unblocks my VBscript. However, that basically means that my Outlook clients aren't protected.

The weird thing is, disabling this did not remove or disable the KAV mail checker add-in so I guess I still have some protection as it still should scan POP/SMTP/IMAP/NNTP traffic.

I guess this will have to do until Kaspersky dev. team comes up with a solution to exclude Outlook forms.

I think you found a good workaround, you just have disabled the plugin of KAV in Outlook but mail trafic is still scanned. Besides you can check that by sending you an email with the harmless eicar virus.
