KASPERKY SHOULD CONSUME LESS RAM,as we all know ks works great on XP ,but in vista it is annoying, customers having low ram get their system hanged down & it usually crashes,it should be an improvement in next ks.

I have been running on Vista 32/64 bit SP1 without any issues for sometime now. The problem here is that Windows Vista has 2x requirements of Windows XP. DDR2 prices are very low right now too.

There is only one way to fix that in Vista................buy more ram, Vista requires 2GB ram in real life, the minimum is just that......minimum and with that you will see slowdowns.

And yet, Kaspersky is the only protection app that causes slowdowns with that very amount (which is just what I have). As far as I see, the only apps that should be causing slowdowns in Vista for me personally are videogames. At the very least, Kaspersky should default to more efficient settings such as not scanning archives and large executables; and not scanning downloads automatically (the first time I noticed this was a problem was when a large installer was scanned, causing the RAM to almost peak). That said, it's still the only app that uses so much RAM when scanning such files, which does bug me a bit. If I need to turn down a lot of scan options then so be it and I'll do just that, but they could also be turned down by default so that every setting isn't sprung on new users such as myself.

I'll be replacing one of my 1GB sticks with a 2GB stick, so I'll have 3GB of RAM in total. If that eliminates massive slowdown, then I'll have nothing to complain about, as everything else about Kaspersky 2010 seems to be really good in terms of just how much I can fiddle with it and how much functionality there is.

I appreciate that this thread's pretty old now, but it's very much relevant to me at the moment and I'd really appreciate it if more notice was took notice of the RAM issue, as it's pretty glaring.

Your issue has zero to with your amount of ram....Kaspersky doesn't use anywhere near your amount, you have a conflict, thats not something for this thread which are......: Kaspersky should consume less ram.

Either open a thread about your issue with a GSI log included....see how here or contact support and work with them:http://support.kaspersky.com/helpdesk.html.

Thanks for the pointer there. I presumed that the surge in RAM usage during scans of large files was just something that came with using Kaspersky, going off when you said that the only solution to RAM issues is to buy more RAM.

Since this seems to be a specific issue, I'll gladly see if I can troubleshoot this/have this troubleshooted.
