A recent Kapersky update has destablized my Dell D620 running Windows 7 Beta 7000. I've been running with Kapersky without problems for a couple of months, but now my machine crashes w/BSOD within 60 seconds of logging in after reboot. This happens consistently; i.e., there's no avoiding it. Obviously this renders the machine unusable.

I tried uninstalling Kapersky and reinstalling. Following the reinstall the machine was again stable; however after allowing Kapersky updates to run the machine once again goes BSOD within 60 seconds of loggin in. Again the machine is rendered useless.

In all cases the BSOD reports kl1.sys as the culprit.

Known problem? Is there a workaround (that doesn't involve Symantec?)

Thanks in advance,
Bill

On questions to beta-versions please open a thread in the beta-forums.

Which build of WKS 8 are you using?

The install file I used is kavwks8.0.0.1015en.exe; thus I assume version 8.0.0.1015. Unable to verify installed version due to BSOD.

I attempted to post my question/observation on the forum for which you so kindly provided a link; however the post failed stating that the forum is READONLY. I did find a recent post (4/15 - PresidenEmil) reporting the identical problem I'm seeing; however the reply posted to that report was pretty rude and unhelpful. So, it appears I cannot post there and, should that be overcome, it's not clear there's much point in doing so.

BTW, I was directed to this forum when I initially posted a tech support chat question regarding the BSOD. You folks need to get your stories together. My impression of Kaspersky based on this experience is quite bad. Don't think I'd like paying to be run around this way!

In any case, thanks for your attempt to help.

Regards,
Bill

Hi,

Kav WKS 8.0 is still in beta testing, which is now closed to the public. There is no official support for it via official technical support or the forum.

Upgrade to 7077 or wait till real RC in May (5?)

And use KIS 2009 or kav wks 8.0.0.1015...

check the 7 forums also

Well, I was directed to the Beta from the MS Windows 7 site, then downloaded the beta back in March. I am well aware that it is a Beta (as is Win7 of course). That it is "closed to the public" is a little hard to swallow since Kaspersky seemed happy enough for me to download and activate the software.

I don't expect much in the way of support; however when an automatic update to Kaspersky's product renders my machine useless I feel it's certainly worth mentioning. Furthermore, in spite of it being a Beta, I would expect a bit of help from Kaspersky since I'm volunteering my help to test their product. I've done many Beta's and this sort of reaction from the software company running the Beta is unexpected and disappointing.

However, all is well that ends well. It turns out that Panda works just fine -- so all this has cost Kaspersky is a few customers. And, of course, I'm not talking about Beta customers.

Well, as Baz already said: the beta for KAV for Windows Workstations 8 is stopped at the moment so support for this product cannot be given at this time. If you need a working Anti-Virus, just install KIS or KAV 2009. I'm using it on all machines (Windows 7 7000, 7068, 7077) without any problems.

My KAV 8.0.0.506 is working very stable on Windows7 (build 7000) x64. Previously had a lot of BSODs, but I think there was a patch in database signatures or small hotfix distributed with updates.
I can't remember my last BSOD on W7, so maybe try this release?
