Full Version: Update utility, new method for offline updating
Kaspersky Lab Forum > Beta Testing > Universal Updater
Julia Samoilova
We offer you to test a new update method and share your opinion about this update alternative compared to update from zip-archives.

Description - http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=193239196.

Advantages of the new update method:
- updates databases of all application components;

- downloads auto patches for the application;

- downloads only new databases – no need to remember which archive precisely to download;

- you can download new databases as often as they are laid out onto Kaspersky Lab’s servers;

- the databases are downloaded into the folder from which the application can later update (no need to unpack and structure the databases);

- you can start the update utility from the flash-card and update the application from this flash-card;

Please consider, the utility is still being tested!

Thank you!

There tools should selected the update server by users.
The download speed from different update server to user is different.
So the tools appoint a update server to update.
but the update server is slow to users.
So I believe the tools should let users to selected the update server or used the update server which have set by user in KIS2009.

you can if you edit the ini. the tool is designed to be used on pc's that have internet access (and not kis/kav, if it has just use the built in retranslation, it does a 2 in one job, updates the bases on that pc and the update distribution) in order to update pc's that have no internet access, so which update server set by the user in kis 2009 should it use?

What should I edit the ini?
Please tell me.
I open the ini and I didn't know how to appoint the update server.

I know the goal of the tool.
I have used the tool too.

I mean that the tools should let users who using the tools to create a offline update files to appointed the update servers when they created a offline update files.
Because When the users using the tools to create the offline update files the tools will connect with update server to get antivirus database files.
So the tools connect with the faster update servers is important for the offline update files creating.
Because the users conncet with the different server and the download speed can different and some fast and some so slow.
so it is necessary let user to appoint the update server when he was using the tools to create the offline update database files.

Run on C:\ , it finish successful.

But it can't run on "C:\Documents and Settings\Allen\桌面\" .
I must edit INI, like this:
temporary_dir=%windir%\temp
retranslation_dir=%windir%\temp\Updates

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
C:\Documents and Settings\Allen\桌面\2009 UPDATE\KIS_8_0_0_454>Updater.bat
C:\Documents and Settings\Allen\桌面\2009 UPDATE\KIS_8_0_0_454>Updater.exe -u -c
-o kis8_454.ini 1>report.txt
unpack the update utility to the folder whose path does not contain any national encoding symbols. the path to teh exe.folder should contain only Latin symbols
To solve this problem is simple, but it is difficult to change users's habits.
lodore
btw i store the folder at f:\users\tim\downloads\KIS_8_0_0_454
the rollbackforretraslation config file ends up in just F:
it should end up f:\users\tim\downloads\KIS_8_0_0_454
hopefully this wil be sorted soon.
