Nothing has changed!
Each one of my users noticed KAV update loads CPU on 100% and the whole system becomes unusable. By me (P4 3000, dual core) one of 2 cores takes 100%, and the network operation is still delaying. it's strange that only web browsing stops (loading pages) the intranet can be used anyway! Update settings are only download signatures from local server.
Browsing some users logs, I found a point in update process that usually takes significant longer than the whole update action. It's called 'Creating list of files to download'. Sometimes this exceeds two or three minutes. it doesn't take sense if I am connected with gigabit LAN or half duplex.
It should be a halfsolution to reduce the update period but I can't adjust different setting for different groups. Could anybody help me ? Admin Kit is set to download updates in every hour to the server, but how can I set my test group to download only when intranet server has a newer virus database ? It seems that this setting will not solve the problem, because in this case the client computer most start the update process to ensure the version of database on the server. However it will not find any newer signature, but 'Creating list of files to download' phase will take long cpu&network operation always, and the update action will be in vain.
Does anybody have a well operating solution (without bad user feedbacks!) ? If there's a chance, I want to use different settings for mobile and desktop groups.
The RC1 is available under the

We have been suffering from this update problem from day 1 (about a year ago). I'm actually amazed most of my users haven't complained about this problematic bug. It doesn't matter if you're running a 3.0ghz core 2 duo or a celeron, it brings your machine to screeching halt while Kaspersky is updating. Not to mention the update transfer speed is agonizing slow. Even on a LAN! I don't know why because we're running gigabit. We consistently see speeds in excess of 200 megabits / sec (25 megabytes / second) to the same server that's hosting our Kaspersky AV. So I don't know why they're throttling the transfer speeds of their updates to < 10 kilobytes / second. It has to be on purpose because there's no good reason why it should be that slow.
I will also be giving the RC1 a try today and post my results when I have tested it.
I'm not able to download the installation from the beta testing site.
It gives me "file not found"
Can someone who have downloaded it (or moderators themselves) point me to a valid link?
Thanks

Make sure you don't have some kind of outbound firewall filtering port 8080. For whatever reason, Kaspersky put the links on that port. I had to open my firewall to allow that port outbound since we filter outbound connections...
If you ask me it's just silly to do that since it causes grief for ppl who filter outbound 8080, but maybe they have some obscure security reason for doing it...

Well, the first computer I tried it on has at least one significant improvement, the data transfer speed appears to be fixed. It was downloading 600+ kb/s. Which only 15 minutes prior to that, on the previous version of Kaspersky, on the same computer, was 3kb/s.
Also, the computer was not rendered useless while the updater was running. However, this is far from conclusive. It's only one computer. The specs are 1.66ghz Core 2 duo, 1gb ram. Good processor but the clock speed won't set the world on fire. The network was connected via wireless during all of my testing.
I'm going to continue testing but I figured I'd post an update with my results so far.

I tested the new release of KAV6 and it is extremely improved. Update memory usage only goes to about 20MB, tops. CPU usage spikes up for a very brief second or so but so far so good. As a test I had it update as frequently as possible on the test machines and performance didn't seem to be impacted. So far so good.

I'm still having good results with this.
Does anyone know when this might be available for production? Do they have a timeline posted anywhere for this?
Good results from here too.
We have about 40 Clients running 6.0.3.837 with Network Agent 6.0.1405 and Administration Kit with 6.0.1405.
Same effect here, during the update process most workstations were pretty slow. The oldest, P4 based without HT, were nearly unusable.
Then I installed filezilla FTP-server and tried updating by ftp. The CPU load ist now during updates abount 50% on a P4 2,8GHz with HT.
And my also users confirmed, that RC1 doesn't freeze their computers during update.
But I hope so, in the middle of October, KL will extend license keys or release RC2/stable version.
RC2 is released since 11.08.2009

Will this work if I have an active license? If I deploy this RC2 to my users will I have any trouble? Do I need to request a new license from Kaspersky for this newer version?
No this version will work with a special license. It expires at 22.10.2009
MP4 can only managed with AdminKit 8. This is also included in the RC2

Ah, I see. Thank you for the reply.
Do we have any kind of a timeline as to when this will be released so my existing license will work? The updater bogging down the system is a significant problem for us (as I'm sure it is for everyone affected by it).
It should be released before Windows7!

More importantly, will it be released before the special license expires on 22.10.2009?
I don't want to start testing this in our environment only to have to downgrade to the previous version and watch our users stress levels go through the roof again as their computers grind to a halt for 15 mins while the updater task runs.
I think the final release will be an another then the RC2. Then your license will work.

I tested the WKS 6 MP4 RC2 (6.0.4.1150) with my normal license (Kaspersky BusinessSpace Security European Edition. 10-14 User 1 year NFR License: Kaspersky Anti-Virus Suite for WS and FS)
without problems.
Bye, Nils
On 6.0.3.837 same from me.

Having the same problem here.. Takes along time from the Admin Kit or the Kaspersky Lab Site.

So what's the resolution here? Are we supposed to be running an RC in our production systems that are having this issue?

Well I was having so many performance related issues that I uninstalled it. I think they still have some work to do (hence its in beta) so I wouldn't push this out to production. The previous version only locked up the computer while it was updating. This one will lock up my pc for 15-45 minutes at a time for no good reason. Even when the updater locked up the pc's before it was only for 30 seconds to 2 minutes at the most.

We had the same issue at our work.
I then looked through the update policy and added the KAV site to another place to download it from, this got us looking at our server.
Turned out that our server was running 100% CPU, so we added a new server (this reduced the load slightly) and then tried again. We found that the firewall on the server was working hard on the server, so we decided to make exceptions... It now seems a lot better

and hopefully the users will be happier also!!! I know that I will be if this stops the phonecalls every day!
