Dear beta testers!
This topic is dedicated to the testing of the Encryption module of Kaspersky Mobile Security 8.0 for Windows Mobile

Suggestion:

After decrypting KMS will open the folder in explorer automatically.
User is offered choice for automatic display of explorer

Suggestion:

* Encryption Reports:

Just a suggestion to let user know if encryption was carried out automatically (time out) or manually by user

Opening Encrypted Files:

Target = Storage Card\stealth test\*

Procedure: Encrypt Folder "stealth test" (This folder has 13 image files).
Files are encrypted successfully and KMS 'interface' is closed.

Opening Folder: When I open File Explorer, I get direct access into the folder which was encrypted by KMS because it was the last accessed folder on the phone.
Then i attempt to open a file

Note: I had chosen to encrypt folder "stealth test", but when file explorer opens, i am already inside "Steg1" (which is inside the folder encrypted).
Isnt the entire content of encrypted folder be unreadable?

Result: Sometimes error message is displayed and access is blocked BUT sometimes the password screen keeps popping up 6-7 times.

Deletion of Encrypted content?

When encrypted content is deleted, there is an error message which makes user feel that data is locked and safe from unauthorized deletion...
But later it seems data is really deleted.

Im using an emulator of WM 6.1.4
and a folder on my desktop acting as the storage card, the encrypted files of KMS are in this folder.
and i dont see the image files inside that folder but i do see the folders huh.gif

I encrypted <stealth test\*>
all files inside "steg1" (sub folder of "stealth test") are deleted but "steg1" and its parent folder "stealth test" still exist

Can encrypted folders be deleted?
If Yes, then why the error message?
and why the images in "steg1" are deleted but both folders are not deleted?

* and then i added 2 files to the "steg1" folder........ 1 pdf and 1 image file
when i opened Encryption tab in KMS.. i had option to 'Decrypt'......... but if we remember i have already deleted the files and those files are no longer there still KMS is assuming that data is safe and encrypted.
When i click on 'Decrypt'....... KMS will say 'Files Decrypted: 2/ All Files Decrypted'.............. In reality these files were NOT encrypted anyways!

I couldnt test Beta 1 so i dont know exactly how KMS 8 functions.. but this seems a little awkward.

Shouldnt the contents of an Encrypted folder be hidden?
I Encrypted a folder with many subfolders (with images)

Although access to the files are restricted, what about file names?

I dont think Encryption works so well.

1- I decrypted the data and made a change in encryption setting (Block after 1 minute)..
Even after 1 minute, KMS will not lock the data.

and then I selected 'Lock Data' from tray menu... Encryption is not being carried out.

To lock the data, I have to keep going back to Encryption screen and manually choosing the folder again and selecting 'Encrypt' angry2.gif

2- If KMS encrypts only 1 folder then why do we have to select everytime which folder we need to Encrypt?

It is better that KMS ask us in a 'Separate' setting for the location of Protected folder. And this folder will be used as default everytime for Encrypt/Decrypt function without asking user for folder location when selecting 'Encrypt'.
-- In 'Settings', KMS will have option to select default folder.

# of files for encryption = 46
# of files encrypted = 44
# of files decrypted = 46

* Phone freezes when KMS Accesses PDF file in encrypted sub-folder.

In Windows Mobile, by default, File Explorer remembers last accessed directory and so when user opens File Explorer next time, Windows mobile will open that last accessed folder.

If last accessed folder was a subfolder of an encrypted parent folder in KMS, then by default the sub folder will open.

When trying to access the User guide of KMS (9MB) from the encrypted folder, the mobile freezes and a reset is required.

See screenshot:
1) Directory screenshot
-- K-Crypt = Parent Folder = Encrypted in KMS
-- KMS8b2 = Sub Folder with multiple files and folders.

2) Animation screenshot

!! Note: If sub folder KMS8b2 is not accessed directly by File Explorer, then KMS doesnt freeze.
this happens when Sub Folder is accessed directly by File Explorer (when data is in encrypted form).

Thank you, we have reproduced this bug

good to know smile.gif
btw.. the direct opening of "encypted sub-folders" (in file explorer seems to cause some issues as i have mentioned in earlier posts.. unexpected behavior at times.
Unfortunately there is a lot of explaining to be done when reporting because of the complex nature of encyption related behavior.. so i understand that language may be a problem here - but if there is a problem (if i sound confusing) i can explain again if you guys require smile.gif

This issues happen only besause you used an emulator during your tests. Its storage card may be read-only for KMS.
Briefly the expected behaviour is:
- You are able to remove anything regardless to "datalock" event
- "Datalock" event is risen after switching phone's backlight off+the period choosen in encryption settings (So there is a text bug in the settings, wrong text in caption) or manually from tray icon's menu.
- If you copy something to encrypted folder after turning on encryption it will encypt automatically with or without asking your password depending on "datalock".

File Explorer gets stuck when you try to "close" by pressing 'X' in the corner of screen.

When data is in encrypted form and you access an encrypted file from file explorer, then KMS will ask you for password.
In the password screen if you press 'X' to close then explorer will get stuck.

Although other applications will open, the interface response will be very slow

A Restart is required for proper functioning.

To reproduce:
1) Encrypt data
2) Goto File Explorer
3) Click a file to open in the encrypted folder
4) Dont enter password, just close KMS by clicking 'X'

!! Note:
Quick press on 'X' will "minimize".. Holding 'X' will attempt to "close" an application.
