I have a serious problem with Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows Servers 6.0.3.837 and I would be very grateful for some help...
Out network consists of 4 x 2003 Servers & 100 x XP/Vista Workstations and up until recently I have had Zero problems, in fact I truly think that KAV is excellent software. However... I have just purchased a new server running Windows Server 2008 Standard x64 Edition and this where my problems starts.
Please note: This is a completely clean server installation with all available service packs and updates, and no other software
I build the server and then perform a remote deployment of KAV via the Administration Kit - This works fine. The software installs and starts and all is good, BUT as soon as I run the updater for the first time, and then restart the server, a very strange problem develops.
- The KAV interface is showing the File Anti-Virus changing between 'Starting' and 'running' roughly every 2 seconds.
- For each time it fails I get sent a notification: "Event Task can not execute happened on computer DCMMEL05 in the domain DCM at Wed Mar 04 19:00:33 2009 File Anti-Virus failed" roughly once every 2 seconds.
- For every notification, an additonal "avp.exe *32" process is launched. In the time it has taken me to write this I now have 841 copies of "avp.exe *32" running.
Please see attached word doc for screen shots of this problem.
If I try to uninstall the software, the installer fails with an unexpected error. I cannot modify the registry to disable the AVP service to startup type 4 (ie. Disabled) as it changes stright back to 2 (ie. Automatic). I even deleted the service from the registry entirely and it simply re-creates it. I have tried re-building the server from scratch and as soon as KAV updates I run into the same issue.
Why would the first update of the software cause such a major problem? I just read on the Kaspersky website that this version is fully compatible with 2008 server in a 64 bit environment. Please help. I can provide log files, screen shots, whatever you need.
Many thanks... hope to get a repsonse soon!!!
