Hello

I would like to present you the new build of retranslator - 5.0.0.4.

How does it work:

How does the update utility retranslator function?

Return codes of the update utility for Linux\FreeBSD

Parameters of the configuration file of the update utility for Linux\FreeBSD

Can the update utility create the “mirror” of the Kaspersky Lab’s sites to update from?

System requirements

Table of components

Distributives - http://data2.kaspersky.com:8080/updater/re...slator_5.0.0.4/

You are welcome to test the utility and inform us about any errors and about successful work of the utility.

Thank you!

Hello,

I tried this 5.0.0.4/BETA build #7 : it works well! (for the few tests I did)

The configuration file didn't change : no more or changed options.
I tried with RegionSettings=fr, ReportLevel=2 and RetranslateComponentsList=UPDATER,AVS,ADB,AHI386,AHX64,AP,AS,BB,BB2,CORE,KAV2006
EXEC,NEWS,RM,RT,WM,AK6,INDEX60,INDEX50
...which corresponds to # KAV for Windows Workstations 6.0 6.0.3.[830‐837], # KAV for Windows Server 6.0 6.0.3.[830‐837] and # KAV for Linux File Server\WKS 5.7 5.7.[17‐26].
Before the first launch, I was using 5.0.0.3/BETA build #6 and I copied the "bases" directory from the old to the new retranslator directories : it worked well, I got a differential download!
Then I added the AH component (for # Administration Kit 6.0 6.0.[1405‐1710]) : it's Ok.

When will the final release be published? What problems does this new beta version correct?

Thanks wink.gif

Thank you for your input.

The only thing changed from 5.0.0.3 to 5.0.0.4 is a critical bug in resolver that had been fixed.
The bug caused the following behavior and is mostly seen on FreeBSD and some specific Linux distributives like DSL:

Retranslation failed

Note that the above occurs instantly, there are no attempts really made to download anything.

We've decided to put the fix in a separate version.

The final release date is not fixed and depends only on the results of this beta testing. We don't know yet.

Hello,

I have just installed 5.0.0.4 on Fedora 10, connected to the internet through a seperate linux box on our network.
I use it to download the updates to a shared folder where our (not always on) windows workstations get their updates from.

It works like a dream.

My only small comment is that it would be helpful to have more information about the
RetranslateComponentsList=
options.

I simply copied one of the examples because I couldn't see what I needed.

Thanks for the beta - it has solved the problem I have been trying to get solved.

Hello!

What Kaspersky Labs's products do you want to update from the retranslator's folder with bases?

Hello,

Just follow the "Table of components" link at the top of this topic. The PDF document mentioned in the target page will help you to find the answer for your installation.
If you only have KAV for Linux File Server\WKS 5.7 5.7.[17‐26], it will be :
RetranslateComponentsList=UPDATER,AVS,RT,AK6,INDEX50
(since the line in the PDF is : KAV for Linux File Server\WKS 5.7 5.7.[17‐26] UPDATER AVS RT AK6 INDEX50).
Just add every component you need, separated by commas... It's as simple smile.gif

Tip: in order not to miss any component keyword, you could copy and paste the line from your PDF viewer (eg.: KPDF, etc.) then rework on it (remove spaces and add commas, etc.).

Hope I've helped you.

Thanks for your answer, which I've read several days ago wink.gif !

I have some other questions:

Could someone please tell me if the retranslator will be able sooner or later to provide updates for PDA and smartphones?
We must apparently make them download updates from the Kaspersky Lab servers on the web, which is sometimes not handy nor possible sad.gif. This impossibility is explained in this article:
Citation
you can “mirror” all databases located on the Kaspersky Lab’s servers using the update utility (updates for products for PDAs and smartphones cannot be retranslated).

Could someone please tell me if the retranslator will be able sooner or later to provide differential updates to its clients?
As explained in this article, it would be possible if it could copy diff’s themselves (available on the Kaspersky Lab servers on the web) into the folder of the update utility:
Citation
This restriction is explained by the fact that diff’s themselves cannot be copied into the folder of the update utility now.

Natalia and Mr Jay,

Thanks - the pdf was what I needed.

even when I looked this time by following the link, I didn't see the pdf link for some time.
I had clicked on it before and not found anything useful there.

I guess that I should have looked harder

  • 1 strange but not that important thing :
While I was testing what happens with an account which has only read rights in the installation directory (/usr/local/retranslator-5.0.0-4/)...
    $ ./retranslator -s
    Can't open log file: /usr/local/retranslator-5.0.0-4/./retranslator.log
Can't set init temp dir to: Access failed to temp dir, /usr/local/retranslator-5.0.0-4/tmp/
=> It seems strange not to be able to use the -s switch ("*Show* update sites infolist") whereas it's Ok with the -h and -v switches ("*Show* program version and exit", "*Show* this message and exit") : no don't need to have write rights to be able to show that information, no?
  • 2 minor things :
    $ ./retranslator -h :
-u Retranslate all compnents except RetranslateComponentList
    -x Retranslate all compnents
    => it should be "components"

Cheers
mr_jay_01
A little "up". Does somebody have an answer to my 2 questions (see above)?
Cheers

[*]1 potential problem with an argument containing a space : in retranslator, replace $0.bin $* by $0.bin "$*"

Most of what you've found will be fixed in the next version.
Thank you for your input!

Links verified and should work.

Hello,

It is some time since I worried about the universal updater because everything has been working faultlessly.

Now I notice that there is a version 6.0.4.1212 of AV for Windows WS.
But my workstations are on version 6.0.3.837

My questions are :-

1. Should my workstations upgrade to 6.0.4.1212 with the same license? (i.e. would I have to buy something to do that?

2. if yes to 1. Is it simply that I need to update my retranslator.conf to match the things in the Update_components.pdf ?

I actually stumbled on the Version 6.0.4 while searching for something else - is there some list I can subscribe to to get notified of such things?

Thanks for any help you can give.
Vitaly Belyakov
Hi,

1. Yes
2. You just need to add some components to retranslator.conf to update 6.0.4.1212 (see table of components)

3. Of course, you can subscribe to news from main page smile.gif
