Full Version: No network access on Virtual PC after wks install (NDIS-related)

I'm doing a test deployment on an XP SP2 Virtual PC. I'm installing Workstation 6.0.3.837 and it's being installed with the File, Mail, Web, and Proactive modules only.

After system reboot, I have no network access. Ipconfig gives me zero data. If I disable the Kaspersky Anti-Virus NDIS Filter, everything is fine (though the LAN Properties box locks up after I apply, so I have to reboot, the NDIS filter remains unchecked and network access is fine.)

Is this issue specific to virtual PC's? If not, what is the security implications of disabling the NDIS filter? How can I prevent this from being installed or enabled upon installation of the KAV client? (If installation cuts of network access, then remote installs are obviously impossible here...)

Thanks,

Hi thelettere,

NDIS Filter provided by Kaspersky Lab is used for interception. Find security issues regarding to NDIS in the article 1310. If you're using not Vista the NDIS is not related to security issues. See article 1620 for further instructions how to remove NDIS (i.e. using Adminkit).

Is there any concensus among users here on which NDIS version works better? Based on other forum posts, I'm fairly certain that the problem is not related to Virtual PC, but to my SonicWALL IPSec VPN client installed. I see several other users that have had VPN/NDIS compatibility issues.

So... anyone seen more success with the older NDIS version mentioned in dawinci's link?
