Hi, I'm having A LOT of problems with bluescreens produced by "klif.sys". Every now and then my computer will suddenly crash and show a bluescreen stating something about Windows has closed or something to prevent harm or whatnot. Then there's a mention of "klif.sys". Don't have a picture of it, but it happens occasionally, which is way more than I would like.

My operating system is Win XP Media center edition, klif.sys version is 6.12.10.147. It also happens when I do not have any Kaspersky products running. My Kaspersky antivirus and whatnot came with the Iolo system mechanic professional 6 package.

Solutions? My preference is to not resort of reformatting my system, because of the amount of stuff that I have. Cross that, I have no intention of reformatting..

Hi
KAV does not support "XP media centre" OS (well I can find no ref to this)

Have looked at the "Iolo system mechanic" website and can find nothing to confirm that this software supports "XP media centre" OS

Please first check that the OS is supported by the product.

Regards

XP media center is the equivalent of XP pro with add-ons.

XP media center is not the same as XP as it requires specific drivers for the hardware.

I have the same problem with Win XP Pro SP2 regular, so this appears like KAV product issue. My reference to other sources on the Net suggest the issue is not result of a Trojan or virus infection but a vulnerability of the driver "klif.sys" permitted by KAV which allows "local" attackers (maybe within a LAN) to crash the target PC that uses KAV. Secunia suggests upgrading to:

* Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal 5.0.372
* Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal Pro 5.0.372
* Kaspersky Personal Security Suite 1.0.53

Other suggestion is maybe replacing the "klif.sys" with a "revised" version. What do you advise in the first place here at the forum, and is there an updated driver available for easy download at Kaspersky's site.

Hi lachob & welcome

Probably better to upgrade to version 5.0.388, since this is the latest version of Personal & Pro:http://www.kaspersky.com/productupdates. smile.gif

Hello,

Since I upgraded to System Mechanic Pro 6 / Kapersky AntiVirus Personal 5.0.390 I too get this bluecreen with the 'klif.sys error' when Scandisk is running.
This happens not allways on the same partition.

I am running Windows XP/SP2 with the latest upgrades.
