1. What is the Compatibility of the current Beta with Snow Leopard (OS/X 10.6) as well as with 32 bit and/or 64 bit?

2. Advise for Upgrade to Version 10.6 with the current Beta installed or removal prior to upgrade?

Note that current Beta is running very well on 10.5.8 for me as well as zero problems with VMware Fusion 2.05 (although that version only works with 32 bit Snow Leopard) running new Beta of Kaspersky WS 6.04.1165 in the VM (where it runs better than on Windows machines)!

1. On-access (real-time) scanner is not compatible with 64bit kernel. On-demand scanner works just fine. If I recall correctly, the 64bit kernel is set by default only on XServe. For other models the kernel is 32bit by default.

2. The upgrade should be just fine with AV installed.

Thank you Maxim for you quick answer!

Will proceed with upgrade in next few days (after B/U first -- learned my lesson with Windows Workspace KAV RC1 through RC3 -- not as "smooth" as the MAC beta)!

Even the Installer does not work with 64Bit enabled on SL.

I can install the OAS , the Core, and the Finder-ext, after Install the Main Program is working.

Is there a chance to get the Installer working, even the OAS module is not working on 64bit ?

Can you alter the Installer, that it is successful on 64Bit SL ?

thanks

Markus from Germany

Hi Markus.

Can you tell me, how did you get 64-bit mode enabled in SL? Please describe that you did to achieve this.

Full 64-bit support will be available in November's release, right now it works absolutely fine if you don't hack your MacOS. ;-)

Very easy.... there is a Switcher for the Kernel, called: SixtyFourSwitcher by Nick Zitzmann

You can find it there: http://seiryu.home.comcast.net/~seiryu/

Thanks.

Fine, it means you're using 3rd party application to change Mac OS's settings. Of course, we cannot guarantee our application will work this way. Anyway, in the future version driver is going to be universal, 32/64 bit.

Even if you use the "standard" way to get 64 bits by pressing "6" and "4" when the computer starts, the problem remains the same.

By the way, any news concerning a 64 bits version of KAV ?

Thanks smile.gif

Same for us, here in KL. :-)

I just upgraded from 10.5.8 to 10.6. Everything was fine. Then installed 10.6.1 update, still fine, then installed 10.6.2 update, it's still working!

10.6.1: Attached File  Screen_shot_2009_10_19_at_9.01.39_PM.png ( 1.58MB ) Number of downloads: 30

10.6.2: Attached File  Screen_shot_2009_10_19_at_9.15.53_PM.png ( 1.58MB ) Number of downloads: 37

For those who having problems running KAV on a Snow Leopard: make sure you have "kernel_task" process in 32 bit mode (NOT 64 bit mode - check in Activity Monitor). See screenshot with example. In case you're running with standard Mac OS Snow Leopard installation, without any system-level changes, KAV for Mac should work fine.

I've install KAV on SL 10.6.1, evrything is ok under 32 bit mode kernel system. Unfortunately I don't have any virus for testing.

I thought 10.6.2 is in beta. I have 10.6.1 installed and ran software update. Nothing available for upgrade

Hi to all,
If the 'kernel_task' is in 64 bit, can KAV run on it? If no, what would be the solution?

Hi.

Not at all, KAV cannot run while kernel_task is in 64 bit mode. Please wait for the updated version of the application planned to be available December/January free of charge. We're planning to fix this issue in this forthcoming update.

With this update, can the program be run in 64 bit even though running in 32 bit kernel? I know this is true of other 64 bit Mac applications, but I want to make sure.

I believe Intego Virusbarrier is running in 64 bit under 32 kernel SL.

Thanks.

Just to add my name to the list, I am also running Snow Leopard in 64 bit mode (enabled manually by modifying the boot config file) and the installer won't work. I narrowed it down to the kext that is trying to be loaded only having the PPC and i386 architectures available and not the x86_64 arch, which is what the newer Macs use when in 64 bit mode. It appears, though, that you all have already determined this.

Is there any more news on the update that will work 100% in 64 bit mode? I'm kind of disappointed that I paid for the subscription but won't be able to use it for 2 months. Though, I know this isn't the place to complain about that sort of thing...
