I'm getting ready to deploy the AV to our 15-20 servers now, and decided to see which package is more suitable.
I've already got the Enterprise Edition on our Windows 2008 Server and it's seems ok so far. As for the rest, they are 2003 Servers. Upon looking through the AV product info, both AV for Windows Server, and AV for Windows Server Enterprise Edition, seem to run on 2003 Server, and appear to do the same task. I guess the question is, why use AV for Windows Server? Would it be easier to just roll out the Enterprise Edition to all our servers from our Admin Kit and avoid any confusion? But then, I don't know, for some reason I still get confused over these two products and why choose one over the other. (ignoring the EE only runs on 2008 reason). Cheers Carl |

Thanks. I'll use the Enterprise Edition I think.
As a side note, i'm going through the install guide for the KAV 6 EE, and it seems like a lot of it is either wrong, out of date, or i'm not reading it correct. e.g. 7.3.2.2. Tasks to do after installing; Disabling scheduled launch of the system on-demand scan tasks on the group servers * In the dialog box Policy properties open tab System tasks and uncheck the On-demand scan tasks in the Running system tasks group of parameters I'm looking at my policy settings, and don't have a "system tasks" tab. 7.3.2.3. Creating and launching the Update application bases group task 3. Select Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows File Servers Enterprise Edition from the Application list in the Application window; in the Task Type list select the type of the task being created: Update application bases. The only update task types I have are "Application database update", "Application modules update", and "Updates Distribution". Not "update application bases". I'm assuming (again) that it means the "Application database update". I've checked i'm using the latest install guide, and it's the one on the site from July 08, so it looks to the latest one. Unfortunately, documentation is made for the first official release of product and never changed. After its release KAV FS EE was updated with two maintance packs, which also made some changes to user interface. So... today you can only try to guess

Another classic reply. So we now have to guess what the installation guide is referring to if it's not the same in the user interface.
I can't believe there's changes, but they aren't ever updated in the documentation. Well, I had to guess at a few bits in the guide. After installing the KAVEE software, it mentions how to roll out the console to the server using the admin kit too. I created a package as it suggested, gave it the "setup.exe" from the client folder of the uncompressed installation files, but I didn't know whether I was meant to "copy all files in the folder" or not. It never mentioned anything about it in the guide. I choose not too, and it didn't seem to install. It gave me two instances of setup.exe running on the server, and the task never budged from 85% complete. Stopping and re-running the task just gave a message box on the server saying "files not found". I'm going to try again creating the package, but setting it to copy all files this time. I'm glad i've got a server not doing anything I can test all this on. |
