I run Vista and use both IE7 and Firefox 2.* on my web development system. I have Kaspersky V7.0 installed with the following sections disabled: Proactive Defense, Firewall, AntiSpam, Parental Controls. I also have Vista's firewall disabled and use a hardware firewall between my LAN and the rest of the world.
The sections that I have disabled are disabled because with them enabled I can't get work done. As a web developer I use FireFox a lot, because the best tools for web development are available for it. Everything was working ok after I installed Kaspersky and disabled the above, until FireFox tried to upgrade from V2.0.4 to V2.0.6. After the upgrade it couldn't get to the internet, while every other app was working ok. I had the V2.0 kit online so I de-installed and re-install and finally disabled upgrades. I assumed that this problem was FireFox's and that it was Vista related. I assumed that a new upgrade would be out soon. When it came out I tried it with the same results. Going to the Firefox forums, they blame this on firewalls, even if you don't think that you are running one! I had disabled all of Kaspersky and FireFox still couldn't get to the Internet or even to http://localhost. I de-installed Kaspersky and reinstalled Firefox V2.0.7 and it worked. It will probably work until the next FireFox upgrade. It appears that Kaspersky doesn't have all of its firewall functionality turned off when the firewall is disabled. This is a severe bug - It cost me in time more than 10 times what I paid for your software. It was problems like this that got me to dump Norton. Please fix this bug asap, because I sure that it will effect other software when it gets upgraded. Regards, David Snow - Webmaster of www.AgingSafely.com |

hello
it's not that "Severe" and it's known (& under review for fixing). The solution to that is to turn the firewall back on, you will get an allow/deny popup for firefox, allow it and then you can turn the firewall off again. |

When I have the firewall turned off and it is still operating THAT is SEVERE. It is also severe when you spend 4 hours debugging and researching a problem thought to be in someone else product. Note that if the error has been a screen "Kaspersky's firewall is blocking this access to the internet" then the problem would have been easily identified and fixed, but Kaspersky silently blocked all access. For your suggestion to work I would have to run the firewall in "Train Mode" rather than basic mode and YOU recommend "Basic Mode" for all users. What would I have had to do if I had elected not to install the firewall? That is what I normally do. /Dave |
