Recently I observed VERY slow performance when writing to a mapped network drive. Disabling File Anti-Virus had no effect. It was only when I disabled Proactive Defense that speed returned to normal. Registry Gard was already disabled. I needed to disable Application Activity Analyzer as well. Computer is Windows Vista (32-bit) with SP1. Remote shares are both Vista and XP based. Writing to shares has always been slow but performance dropped dramatically the past week or so. For example, using WinZip 9.0 to unzip a 1MB archive with about 500 files takes 15 to 20 minutes with Proactive Defense enabled vs. a minute or two with it disabled. The problem is not restricted to WinZip, I just used some unzip timings to illustrate the difference. As another point of reference, preforming a backup of a an 11MB Quicken data file across the network takes several minutes vs. a few seconds. Has anyone else experienced this problem? What are the risks of disabling Proactive Defense? Since it slows down everything, its not effective to add every program I use to an trusted zone. I'm not sure that works for Proactive Defense anyway.

Running:
  • Kaspersky 7.0.0.125
  • Windows Vista Ultimate Service Pack 1 (build 6001)
  • Intel Core2 Duo CPU @ 2.66GHz with 4GB RAM

Is there any update to this topic?

I too have problems sharing files across my network with Proactive Defense activated.

Just spent hours with my IT guy trying to 'white list' an application that I use daily but cannot do it.

V. frustrating.
