Hello !

For like the past 6 months or so, I have been using Casper v4 to make a clone copy of my system drive to an eSATA drive on a regular basis.

To do that, I would exit Kaspersky, run Casper to make the clone, re-boot. All good.
Quite a few pop-ups "the exe file has changed" afterwards but all good.

Seems "maybe" since the last Kaspersky update, where you had to restart the pc, after I make the clone, Kaspersky file av module starts to scan all files, and keeps scanning and scanning.

Also, "scan my computer" hangs when it reaches c:\System Volume\mountpointremotedatabase.
It will complete the scan if I untick "system backup storage" but on reboot, file av once again starts scanning and scanning and scanning. . .

Is there any work-around to this other than re-installing kaspersky after "extra cleaning" the registry?
It hasn't been a problem in the past.

Thanks
Hill-Billy-Bob

P.S. its fresh XP with SP3-RC2 at the moment.

Hello
if it's a fresh xp, check if the "indexing service" isn't running and if it is disable it (start>run>Services.msc)

Hi Lucian,
I found it is set to manual, I had un-ticked it in drive properties, so I dont think it was running.

I understand what you mean though, as if something were accessing all the files making file AV scan on access. I have all the settings default "recommended" so its - scan programs and documents (by content) - scan new and changed files only - and smart mode.

Another thing I noticed is after doing a copy, I get alot more Self-Defense events reported like:
Process (PID 756) tried to access Kaspersky Internet Security process (PID 776), but the action has been blocked by the Self-Defense component. No action on your part is required.

That one is for Logitec setpoint.exe and usually all I see. When I get the problem I cant find the other PID numbers in task manager, I am assuming because kaspersky didnt let them run. Makes me wonder why many more things suddenly get blocked. Is there a way to find what the PID is associated with if its not running? Could the problem be because something is not starting that should be? . . . or am I on the wrong track.

thanks
Hill-Billy-Bob

I installed 8.0.0.357 on my backup boot drive and it also hangs when it reaches c:\System Volume\mountpointremotedatabase

what to do?
