I'm using AOL AVS and since yesterday been getting this when try to update. Is anyone else and whats wrong?
Edition from Igor Kurzin: Please use this instruction from Daniel all : 1. shutdown Kaspersky ActiveVirusShield. Closing the main window is not enough, please click on the systray icon and exit. 2. locate the XML file listing the update servers. It's usually located in directory C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AOL\AVP6\Data and the name of the file is aol-updcfg.xml 3. edit that file and remove the two following lines CODE <site2 url="ftp://download.newaol.com/avs/update/mirror/" diff_url="diffs" weight="10000001" region="*" /> <site2 url="http://download.newaol.com/avs/update/mirror/" diff_url="diffs" weight="10000000" region="*" /> 4. save the file 5. restart ActiveVirusShield and launch an update from the systray icon's contextual menu. |

QUOTE dagger666: I'm using AOL Kaspersky and since yesterday been getting this when try to update. Is anyone else and whats wrong? Yes, I am having the exact same problem. QUOTE(MAPKOBKA^^ @ 1.09.2007 05:41) AOL AVS has been discontinued by AOL. So AOL AVS has been discontinued without any warning, and there is now no free home user anti virus program powered by Kaspersky? And until we upgrade to regular Kaspersky or some other AV we are unprotected and subjecting ourselves to potential viruses? Is this correct? I think it is poor business to just end the anti virus program with no warning if indeed this is what has happened. It seems like AOL AVS could have easily sent computer messages that the program was expiring well ahead of time, especially considering the bad result that many AOL AVS users suddenly find themselves at great risk to catch a virus today. Is there an easy migration path upgrade for AOL AVS users to regular Kaspersky anti virus? |

hello
it was aol decision, and it's a month since aol was discontinued. currently there's no free kaspersky based protection that i know off. kaspersky has no posbility of getting messages from a centralized server and dispalying them in v6 and in AVS. so that was out of the question. the only thing aol could do is send you an email (if they retain your email somewhere upon registration) the only way to upgrade is, unnistall avs, reboot and install kaspersky. if you deicde to buy it you can activate the 30 day trial version. this should provide full protection until you get your commercial code This post has been edited by Lucian Bara: 1.09.2007 18:02 |

The nearest to free is a 6 month trial from:

I have been gone since that morning of the 30th, and I just started receiving the signatures out of date warnings this morning when I turned my computer back on. Hi, support group.
I understand that the AOL discontinued supporting Kaspersky's wonderful/effective AV scanner. But since the Expiration date of my version indicates 11-Feb-08, I assumed to update the Signature/Definition files until next year. Am I wrong? Even though the AV apps. was a freebee, I would have thought Kaspersky would continue Signature updates until the expiration date. Can anybody offer any explanation as to the abrupt discontinuation? If all is lost, can anybody provide advice with respect to proper and complete removal of AOL AVS, please? Kind regards...Copellia. FYI. Update failed: incorrect signature. You have to ask AO, that question, i assume it is stopped since so many report it, but why not wait a day or 2 before you uninstall it via add/remove programs.

Don't post that trick again.........!.................AOL AVS is discontinued, if they do not want to put signatures on their servers then thats it and your beef is with them.

I have the AOL Active Virus Shield install package, and it was installed, but I uninstalled it. After that I decided I wanted to re-installed it and it wasn't available for download on the original website so I used my saved install package (for occasions like these). But unfortunately I wasn't able to get an Activation Code from the website and I didn't save the original e-mail with the code. I tried the McAfee/AOL program that replaced the AOL Active Virus Shield and it slowed down my computer. So I would like to keep and get an activation code for the Active Virus Shield.
More Information: I used the same activation code for a different account and it is still installed on that one. So I am able to get the Number, Type and Expiration Date if that helps. Also: The reason I uninstalled/tried a new program is because I had problems updating the threat signatures. Thank you for all your help! |

I currently have the free version of AOL AVS Version 6.0.0. 308. All of my Protection Services are running, and I'm set for Automatic Updates, but my AVS has not updated since 8/30. When I try to update manually, It gives me an error for 2 daily.avc files and says at the top of the update screen, "Update Failed-Incorrect Signature. Does anyone know what the problem is?

AOL has discontinued AVS. There is no longer any support for it I'm afraid...
Best thing to do is either to switch to another av... if you want to continue using Kaspersky based protection, my advice would be to download the trial of Kaspersky products here: http://www.kaspersky.com/trials ...try it, if you like it, buy it. Until now I have this AOL Active Virus Shield running on my computer, using win xp.
Now i just installed the same version on a different hard disk in my system (win2000), using the same key from AOL (which i got for my xp-system). Now, the update does work on my win2000 hard disk without any problems. For my xp hard disk i get the following : Selecting update source ftp://download.newaol.com/avs/update/mirror/ 03.09.2007 13:04:22 File downloaded cs-0607g.xml 03.09.2007 13:04:27 92.5 KB File downloading error: incorrect signature (0x8000005A) daily-ec.avc 03.09.2007 13:04:31 Selecting update source http://download.newaol.com/avs/update/mirror/ 03.09.2007 13:04:31 File downloaded cs-0607g.xml 03.09.2007 13:04:34 92.5 KB File downloading error: (0x8000005C) daily-ec.avc 03.09.2007 13:04:37 Selecting update source ftp://download.newaol.com/avs/update/mirror/ 03.09.2007 13:04:37 File downloading error: incorrect signature (0x8000005A) daily-ec.avc 03.09.2007 13:04:39 Update finished with error: incorrect signature (0x8000005A) 03.09.2007 13:04:39 Conclusion : the key only works for one system.... this error indicates that your key might be stolen by someone.... |

Guys, do *not* throw away the free version of kaspersky if you still have your activation code. Here's the trick to have your updates back... Enjoy.
